If you can’t engage in any substantial gainful activity because of a medically determinable physical or that can be expected to result in death or to last for at least 12 consecutive months, the SSA considers you to be disabled. What qualifies as substantial gainful activity? The cutoff is essentially $980 dollars, meaning that if you can earn more than that amount, your impairment will not be considered severe enough.
