Social Security Disability Process

Lawyers for Disability Benefits in Minnesota and Throughout the Midwest

For most people who obtain benefits under Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), it is a long, frustrating process. Fewer than 30 percent of all initial applicants receive benefits the first time they apply. Without the help of an attorney, you risk losing out on SSDI or SSI benefits that you need.

At Midwest Disability, our No. 1 focus is helping our clients obtain SSDI and SSI benefits. We represent clients in the Midwest and throughout the country who need guidance at every stage of the Social Security Disability process. Call 888-351-0427 or contact us online for your free evaluation.

Help at Every Stage in the SSDI/SSI Process

We have extensive experience at every step of the SSDI/SSI process:

  • Initial application: Many of our clients are surprised to learn that approximately 70 percent of all SSD claims are denied upon the initial application. We can help you complete the application and file it with the Social Security Administration (SSA).
  • Reconsideration: This step in the process is exactly what the name implies. In all but the 11 states that do not have a reconsideration step, the SSA literally reconsiders the claim, starting at the beginning of the process with a different claims examiner. If you do not know whether you are in a state that has reconsideration, contact an attorney to learn more.
  • Hearings with the administrative judge: If your claim is denied at the initial application and reconsideration stages, we will petition for a hearing with an administrative law judge, and we will represent you at this hearing, where we will show why you are eligible for benefits.
  • Appeals: After the hearing, if you are still denied benefits, we will determine whether an appeal is appropriate for your case. Under the new rules, it may be beneficial to simply file a new claim rather than appeal. We will closely examine your situation and the ruling of the administrative law judge to determine what strategy is best for you.

Wherever you are in the process, our attorneys will help make the best case for you, so you can get the benefits you need.

Contact Our SSD/SSI Process Lawyers Early in the Process

It is always best to contact us as early in the process as possible. If you have just recently been injured or stricken ill, contact us before you file. If we can help you at the initial application stage, we can greatly increase your chances of obtaining SSD or SSI benefits without having to go through the hearings and appeals. This will save you time and money, get you your benefits faster, and minimize the stress of the entire process.
