Experienced Attorneys Helping You Seek Disability Medical Benefits

Disability-Related Medical Benefits

At Midwest Disability, we help people who can’t work because of a medical condition to apply for and obtain governmental disability benefits, including medical benefits through the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

How can we help you? Because of our limited focus on disability claims and the more than 50 years of combined experience our attorneys have with these areas of the law, our law firm can represent you efficiently while providing the answers, personal attention and compassionate support you deserve and have a right to expect.

Key Differences Between Medicare and Medicaid

If you qualify for SSD, you will begin to receive Medicare benefits two years (plus the five-month waiting period) from the date the SSA says you became disabled. If you are eligible to receive SSI instead (meaning that you can’t work and have limited assets), you will have immediate coverage through Medicaid. It is also possible to qualify for both programs.

Other differences you may not be aware of include:

  • Medicare is administered by the federal government. Medicaid is administered by state governmental authorities that are subject to federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Medicare is funded solely by the federal government. Medicaid is funded by the federal government, states, and in some areas, by counties.
  • Medicare provides only partial coverage and may require premiums, deductibles and co-payments. Medicaid provides more complete coverage but does require beneficiaries to contribute all of their income in exchange.
