Expedited applications for veterans

When seeking Social Security disability benefits in Minnesota, one of the most common complaints is that the process simply takes too long. This is often true for soldiers who have been disabled in combat and who hoped that the government would work more quickly to get them the assistance that they needed, considering all that they have given up for the country.

What these soldiers should know is that an expedited process has been approved. If the rating given out is 100 percent Permanent & Total -- commonly known as P&T -- then the veterans can have their applications processed in an expedited manner.

It's important to note that this is not a guarantee that benefits will be approved or offered. However, it does mean that many vets will not have to sit around and wait for as long to get an answer. The applications can be reviewed quickly so that a resolution can be reached.

There are two main qualifications that must be met under social security guidelines if you're going to be given these benefits:

-- The medical condition must make it so that you are unable to work.-- The condition needs to have lasted at least a year, or the doctors must expect it to last that long. For family members seeking benefits, they are also sometimes passed down if the benefits have or are expected to result in death.

Are you suffering from war-related injuries? You should know that the government is now offering this expedited review of applications to speed the process up, so it's important to understand exactly how to take advantage of it.
