What are conditions that qualify for Social Security Disability?

You've been disabled for a while, but does the Social Security Administration recognize you as disabled? If it does, you have a right to benefits, but if not, you don't. Here are a few things to consider.

What medical conditions qualify you for Social Security Disability?

There are many that qualify people for Social Security Disability. Some include back conditions or dysfunctions of the bones or muscles, respiratory illnesses, neurological disorders, digestive tract problems, blood disorders, immune disorders and mental disorders. This isn't an exhaustive list, of course, and all conditions that qualify can be found on the Social Security Administration's website.

What happens if my condition isn't on the list?

If it's not on the list, it doesn't mean you don't qualify. It does mean that you need to meet other criteria. Your attorney can help you collect the evidence you need and fill out the paperwork for SSD, so you have the best chance of a successful application. It's fairly normal to have your first application denied, so don't get disheartened if that happens. You can appeal the decision and apply again.

What documents do you need?

Keep all documents related to your condition. That includes notes from physical exams, MRIs, treatment notes, reports on your heath, mental health records and blood work, just to name a few. Your records need to show how severe your condition is. To obtain SSD, you need to show that it prevents you from performing work-related duties.

Your attorney can help you organize and present these documents in a clear, consistent manner to the Social Security Administration, so you can get the benefits you deserve.
