As with any benefits you receive from the government, there are generally set limits to how much you can earn. Some people believe that having limits in place prevents good people from going back to work because of their fear that they won’t be able to support themselves quickly enough.
It’s that fear that sparked the Ticket to Work program, which is something you can take advantage of even if you have Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability (SSD). You deserve a chance to get back into the workforce, just as you deserve a safety net to catch you if you cannot make a living.
An Aug. 4 report discusses how important this program is. The Social Security Administration (SSA) program’s work incentives and Ticket to Work program is designed to help you go back to work if you’re interested in doing so. With this program, you can still obtain SSDI and SSI while working.
There are benefits to the Ticket to Work program including training, job referrals, vocational rehabilitation and employment support. You’ll be able to receive certain work incentives as well, such as continued cash benefits for a period of time while you start working, help with training, rehabilitation and education and continued acceptance into Medicare or Medicaid while you work the new job.
If it turns out that you cannot continue working after you start in the Ticket to Work program, you may assume your benefits again. In many cases, individuals don’t have to reapply, giving them the safety net they need to try to work to support themselves.
