Do you have questions about RSDI benefits?

Do you have questions about Retirement, Survivors, & Disability Insurance (RSDI) that you just cannot seem to find the answers to? It can be a bit confusing. This is compounded by the fact that you know just how important those payments are. You want to get it right, and you can't afford any mistakes. To help, here are the answers to some common questions.

How old do you need to be?

The minimum age to apply for RSDI is 61 years and eight months. You can, of course, still apply if you are over this age.

Do spouses have options as well?

Yes, they do. Not only can those who need the benefits for themselves apply, but spouses of these individuals can apply as well. This opens up financial support to all who may need it.

What can lead to a denial?

There are many potential reasons for a denial. Two examples are if you have already put in a retirement benefits application or if you are a spouse who is getting benefits through a Social Security record of your own.

How far out should you apply?

You can apply early, but only by four months. If you apply even further in advance -- such as a year -- the government can't process it at that time.

Can you apply if you have Medicare already?

You can. The government allows those who get Medicare benefits to apply for retirement benefits just like anyone else.

These are just a few of the many questions you may have. Make sure you know exactly what steps to take.
