A closed period of disability is period between the date when an individual alleges their disability started and the date when they are physically able to return to work. This period must be at least 12 months long. If you meet the criteria for disability during this period, then you will receive backpay for the period of time during which you were unable to work. You will not receive monthly checks moving forward.
