Asthma and disability

by | Sep 1, 2023 | SSD - Social Security Disability |

Asthma can have a big impact on your daily life and your ability to work, and are a reason you could qualify for asthma. If you have had exacerbations or complications requiring at least three hospital stays of 48 hours or more within a twelve month period, and an FEV1 level below those in this list corresponding to your age and height, you qualify for disability under Listing 3.03.

FEV1 level Table

If you have not had hospitalizations, or do not have FEV1 levels equal or less than those in the list, asthma will still be considered! When looking at your residual functional capacity to perform work, the judge will take into account asthma when limiting different factors you could be exposed to while working, such as: dusts, fumes, odors, chemicals, extreme heat, extreme cold, humidity, or other respiratory irritants.
