The Differences Between SSD and SSI…
Though the claims processes for both Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are essentially the same, the eligibility rules are different. SSD eligibility is based on a person’s work history (how much they’ve paid into the system). SSI eligibility, by contrast, is need-based (meaning that to qualify, you need to be disabled and have limited assets).
