Social Security benefits, both Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, are a federally run program. If you have filed an application and are awaiting adjudication, you do not need to file a new application. If you are currently receiving benefits, in most cases, you will not lose your benefits. If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income, you must live in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands. Supplemental Secuity Income is not available to residents of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. If you are receiving additional benefits from the state you are living in, you will need to reapply for any benefits your new state offers.
